I’ve spent the past month taking TONS of classes, subbing here and there, and now I’m really eager to get back into a regular teaching routine. And so it shall be… beginning May 22! Come check it out! Looking forward to sweating with you!
Thursday June 16th: 6-8pm “It’s Rocket!” Workshop @ TEALL
About Rocket: Developed in the 80’s by Larry Schultz, Rocket is derived from an Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice. It is based on a modification of the Primary and Intermediate series. However, the Rocket deconstructs the traditional hierarchy of postures and gives back control to the student over their own creative process, while still honoring the core values and teachings of this ancient practice.
The name “Rocket” comes from guitar player, Bob Wier, of The Grateful Dead. Schultz, who was touring with the band as their private yoga instructor, was teaching this sequence and after one session, Wier asked, “what is the name of this sequence? It’s great!” Larry said he did not have a name for it, but he just loved teaching it. Wier instantly said he should call it, “The Rocket! Because it gets you there faster!” Larry joked that he never knew where “there” was, but he would get there faster anyway.
Each Rocket class will always begin the same; 5 Surya Namaskar A and 5 Surya Namaskar B. From there, the sequence can vary up to 6 different routines, from the most beginner to the most advanced, but at it’s core, it will always stimulate the nervous system, invigorate and strengthen the student, while promoting freedom within a practice of seemingly advanced postures while staying accessible to each individual. The Rocket is truly for everyone!
Finally all settled in here at VaB. Teaching is sporadic still, but I’m focusing on growing my own practice right now. However, I’ll be teaching at River Yoga in Suffolk on Tues. April 5th and 12th for the 4:30pm Vinyasa and 6pm Hatha.
My very dear and amazing friend, April, has been busy putting together a teacher training for Eka Loka Yoga and has asked me to come out to CA to teach a Rocket master class and a Backbends, Arm Balances, and Inversions workshop as part of the training. This training goes from June 3-Aug 28 and my session with be the weekend of July 22-24.
